This coastal area is one of the highest tourism areas in all of Ecuador, with international and domestic travelers seeking the world-renowned beaches and cuisine that have put Manabí on the map.

Known for its natural surroundings, fishing industry, and water activities, the community of Rio Chico in Salango is a hidden gem of tranquility between the popular Puerto Lopez and the surfing town of Ayampe.

Location: Rio Chico Community, Salango, The Manabí coast of Ecuador

Ecuador has won several World Travel Awards, including a green environmental destination award.

This property is in an ideal location for exploring the famous Manabí coast.

Next to the Galapagos, this is the highest tourism area in Ecuador.

The coast is renowned for its cuisine, seafood, varied micro-climates, water sports, and natural beauty. In addition, the area is famous for the yearly migration of humpback whales between June and October, when tours to see them and to visit Isla de la Plata is in full swing.

Despite its proximity to tours and activities, the comuna of Salango is known for its tranquility. The sounds of native birds and the beat of the ocean waves provide the backdrop for reflection and relaxation. Hilltop ocean breezes maintain comfortable temperatures even when temperatures rise in other nearby areas.

The property has access to a white sand beach only a twenty-minute walk away. Long stretches of mostly deserted beaches, swimming, and surfing are available to guests. The Rio Chico beach is renowned as one of the best surfing spots in Ecuador.

Guesthouse

The Property - Details

The property consists of three two-bedroom guesthouses (one with two bathrooms, the others with one bathroom), all with ocean-view balconies, three private one-bedroom poolside hotel-style rooms with showers, and one sizeable two-floor building with a loft apartment, laundry room, and a studio apartment that can be used for a caretaker below.

A 10-meter-long pool, open-air yoga and community room, outdoor kitchen and bar, poolside bathroom and shower, spa/sauna, and a small studio apartment in the garden.

A storage or workshop building is located near the entrance.

The property has three levels: the garden on the lower level, the houses on the second level, and the building with individual bedrooms, a pool, community areas, and a multi-use facility on the upper level—all with ocean views.

Entry to Property

In addition, there is enough land to build more housing on the lower level or for “glamping.”

The landscape is native plants and trees with fruit trees such as banana, coconut, palm, maracuya, lemon, mandarina, cherimoya, cherry, avocado, mango, almond, and more.

A 12-foot brick wall encircles the property, constructed with a Manteño design. A large hand-made wooden gate is at the entrance. A palm tree-lined driveway between the upper-level and lower-level terraces leads to houses with secure parking and automobile access.

Construction of buildings is Manteño style, brick with reinforced columns, electric and plumbing connections, and wireless internet throughout the property. There are two calefones or water heaters, one for the houses and one for the upper terrace buildings. The cistern is oversized. The property has its own transformer and technical pool room.

There are social areas such as a multi-use gaming and community room (ping pong) or for yoga, a fire pit near the open-air kitchen, and a volleyball court.

The local governance structure is via Comuna, not the municipality, making building and other development activities easier as there are fewer restrictions. Buyers would purchase the “right of use and possession” and integrate into the comuna.
